Richard L. Walker

Richard L. Walker, 77, of Dover died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Union Hospital.

He was a Computer Systems Analyst for Warner & Swasey and was also a Data Processing Manager for Union Hospital.

Born July 9, 1929 in New Philadelphia, Ohio he was a son of the late Merrill L. and Mary Irene Stonebrook Walker.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Dover Elks.

He was a 1947 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and also graduated with distinction from the Tuscarawas Branch of Kent State University with an Associates Degree in Arts and Sciences. He attended the Bessie V. Hicks Academy of Dramatic Art in Philadelphia, PA where he also taught at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey. He then moved to New York City and was employed at Equitable Life Assurance and then as a Stock Transfer Agent at National City Bank of New York. But Richard�(TM)s greatest love was reading, where his personal library has a collection of over 5, 000 books. He also enjoyed computers, as was evident by his love of teaching computer classes at the Tuscarawas Branch of Kent State.

Richard is survived by his wife, Donna Wendling Walker with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on May 20, 2006.

He is also survived by a son, Jeff Zimmerman; daughter, Wendy (Steve) Harrison; two brothers, George W. (Iris) Walker and M. Gene (Ruth) Walker all of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Rachelle, Taylor and Seth Harrison. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Shadow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 1:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Jim Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the burial a reception will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday one-hour prior to the service.
