Richard G. Barr, Sr.

February 2, 1915 — June 6, 2000

Richard G. Barr, Sr., 85, a 60 year resident of 850 Crater Ave., Dover, Ohio died Tuesday, June 6, 2000 in the Morning View Care Center following an extended illness.

Rich formerly operated the Sohio Service Stations in New Philadelphia and was the Service Mgr. Of the former Weinsz Motor Company at Dover for 25 years.

Born February 2, 1915 in Barrs Mills, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lester Barr Sr. and Edna Gerber Barr.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover, Tuscarawas Masonic Lodge at Dover, Tadmor Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. He was also a member of the Dover Elks Lodge and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Helen Halter Barr with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 7.

He is also survived by one daughter Lois (James) Keller of New Philadelphia and one son, Richard “Dick” (Sue) Barr Jr. of New Philadelphia.

Four grandchildren Wendy (D.J.) Kourie of New Phila, Kim (Russell) Volkert and Jill (Mark) Drobney both of Dover and Todd (Susan) Barr of Bolivar and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Jr. and James Barr.

Private graveside services will be held Thursday in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with Pastor Brian Nunnally officiating. There are no calling hours.
