Richard A. Kate

Richard A. Kate, 76, of Dundee died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was a retired Architect with over 30 years of service with Gundy / Benchmark Construction.

Born November 14, 1933 in Dundee Richard was a son of the late Harold and Elsie Baker Kate. His brother, Paul Kate and his sister, Mary Edwards also preceded him in death.

Richard was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek where he served as a Deacon, was active on the Scholarship Committee, as well as, the Building Fund Committee. Richard was a true craftsman, who put his architectural talents to work by restoring many homes throughout the area. He could fix and build just about anything, and he also had a green thumb when it came to working in his garden. But most importantly he loved his family, whether it was having everyone together for building parties or for the holidays, family was the focal point.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 54 years, Cloe-Ann Locker Kate whom he married on February 26, 1956; daughters, Kim (husband, Jerry) Edgar, Yvonne (husband, Rodney) Zesiger and Melissa Kate and her partner, Danielle Hickey all of Dundee; grandchildren, Josh, Zachary and Tristan (wife, Jess) Zesiger, Jess Edgar and Maggie (husband, Ty) Jenkins; great grandchildren, Chloe Zesiger and Aubree Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Anissa Bacon officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
