Richard A. Baker

Richard A. "Dick" Baker, 83, of Dover (Columbia), Ohio passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 in the Park Village Health Care Center following a period of declining health.

Dick retired in 1989 as a bricklayer for Local #6 in Canton where he served his trade for over fifty years.

Born May 10, 1927 in Dover, he was the son of the late Allen D. and Vina L. (Myers) Baker.

Dick was a longtime member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church in Strasburg where he formerly served as a trustee. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a member of the Pine Hill Hunting Club in Dover. He dedicated his life to helping others. He will be remembered as a loving grandfather. He and his wife, Mary enjoyed regular fishing trips to Pymatuning Lake and also enjoyed traveling with senior citizen groups especially trips to Branson, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Mary (Reidenbach) Baker who died October 19, 2003.

He will be sadly missed by his three children Carolyn (husband, Terry) Jones of Beach City, Linda (husband, Phil) Dreher and Richard (wife, Lavan) Baker all of Dover; five grandchildren, Stacy Morris of Hilliard, Matthew (wife, Ashley) Baker of Dublin, Wesley Baker of Dover, Jeremy Dreher and his fianc� Leslie LaBarge of Dover and Joshua Dreher of Dover. He is also survived by his great granddaughter, Trinity Dreher; a brother, Donald (wife, Donna) Baker of Columbus, a sister, Jean (husband, Delmar) Straub of Dover and a brother in law, Fred "Fritz" (wife, Mary Jane) Aul of Strasburg.

In addition to his wife and parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Fern Aul.

A celebration of Dick's life will be held Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynda K..Masters and Rev. Howard Fox officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Mary in the Dover Burial Park following military honors by the Dover VFW. Friends will be received Sunday from 2-5pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover.
