Raymond J. Roberts

Raymond J. "Ray" Roberts, 86, of Dover, Ohio died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover.

Born September 27, 1925 in Cortland, Ohio, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude (Gardner) Roberts.

Ray founded Roberts Roofing Co. at Dover in 1970.

He was a member of the Grace Community Fellowship in Springfield, Ohio. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed woodworking and created birdhouses and bird feeders. He was a jack of all trades and could do plumbing, heating and cooling, and was a Mr. Fixit. He also enjoyed hobby farming.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis (McGarry) Roberts with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on April 2; four children Garrett(Geri) Roberts of Akron, Patricia (Bill) Alspaugh of Bolivar, Delven (Carolyn) Roberts of East Canton, and Anita (Curtis) Clark of Dover; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren ; a sister Wanda (Ron) Haught of Sterling, Ohio and a brother, David (Stella) Roberts of Newton Falls, Ohio and three daughters in law Connie, Cindy, and Fran.

He was preceded in death by three sons Jeff, Sam, and Mitchel Roberts, a grandson, Matthew Roberts and a sister, Evelyn (Roberts) Smith.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor David Botha officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 2pm.
