Percival Garner

Percival “Perci” Garner, Jr., 50, of Dover, entered into the joy of the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, following a long battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 9, 1953, in Mercy Hospital, Canton, he was the son of Donnie M. Moon Garner of Dover, and Percival Garner, Sr. of Canton. Perci was a 1972 graduate of Dover High School, where he excelled in athletics, playing football and running track. Later, he played semi-pro football with the former Tuscarawas County Vikings, and played softball with several teams in the Massillon area. Perci served his country in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1979. He attended Kent State University, and was employed by the Ohio Department of Transportation and ATM Trucking, Massillon.

Perci was a member of the New Life Church of God, Dover, and participated in the church Praise and Worship Team playing the congas. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Perci liked to go fishing.

Besides his parents, he leaves to grieve his passing three daughters, Tiffany J. Garner of Barberton, Joy Guice of Florida and Marcisha M. Garner of Dover; two sons, Jason J. Garner and Percival Garner, III, both of Dover; a sister, Esther M. (Grover) Avery of Dover; “bestest friend,” Julianne Maybaugh, also of Dover; four grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Perci was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Marie Moon and Percy C. and Esther Garner.
His life will be celebrated in a service Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at 12 p.m., in the New Life Church of God, 115 South Ave., Dover, with Pastor Dode Overton officiating. There will be a meal in the First Baptist Church, 140 Regent St., Dover, immediately following the service. Perci�(TM)s body will be cremated, and his cremated remains will be buried later next to his Grandmother Moon in Dover Burial Park.
