Paul R. Phillips

Paul R. Phillips, age 81, of Dover, passed away unexpectedly Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in his home.

Born May 9, 1936 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Bert and Bessie Angel Phillips. Paul graduated from New Philadelphia High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army. He married the former Julia M. Auman, who survives, on July 19, 1959. Paul was employed by the Union Camp Corporation, Dover, for forty-three years, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of Dundee United Methodist Church, and formerly belonged to Winfield United Methodist. Paul was an active participating member in both churches. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He was also a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indians and Browns.

Paul was a devoted family man and a good provider. He especially enjoyed following his children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events and watching them grow up. He will be sadly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Julia; his children, Debra (Jerry) Dummermuth, Douglas and Diane Phillips, all of Dover; his grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Dummermuth of Columbus, Eric (Ashley Ridenour) Dummermuth of New Philadelphia, Kyle Dummermuth of Dover, and Sara (Kris Popham) Dummermuth of Columbus; his great-grandson, Andrew “Drew” Dummermuth; his brother-in-law, Grover “Fuzz” Kennedy of Dover; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Margie Auman, also of Dover; and his many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his five sisters and four brothers – he was the last of a family of ten children.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 5, at 2 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Ray Garvin officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park, where military rites will be conducted. Following the committal, there will be a lunch at the Auman Timbers Golf Course. 4120 State Rte. 516 N.W., Dover.
