Patricia A. "Pat" Jones

Patricia A. “Pat” Jones, age 83, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021, in the Cleveland Clinic. Pat had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer this past December. Given a grim prognosis, she courageously chose to fight and forge ahead with treatment – and life. 

Born at home in New Philadelphia on November 14, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Delbert and Gertrude Rees Perry. Pat graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1955, and went on to attend Kent State University. She had several jobs during her lifetime, but her  favorite was that of school crossing guard for Dover Avenue Elementary where she performed her duties for over 30 years. Pat retired in 2019. She was grateful and touched by the send-off Dover Avenue gave her on her departure. 

Pat very much enjoyed women’s barbershop choral singing, and was an original member of the local Sweet Adelines and then The Valley Voices.She treasured her friends and got together with her high school classmates monthly. Pat cared deeply about others and was always willing to help - she was kind and generous to a fault. Pat had a beautiful smile, the memory of which will live on. 

She will be dearly missed by her children, Trevor (HollyTroche) Jones of Seville, and Tricia Peterson of New Philadelphia; hergrandchildren, Zane Peterson of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Sabrina Peterson of Dover; her sister, Peggy Dunkel of Medina; her sister-in-law, Nancy Donado of Ormond Beach, Florida; and her several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth R. “Kenny” Jones, on June 9, 2019; her sister, Vera Jane Osborne; and her brother, Delbert “Bud” Perry Jr. 

Pat will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A committal service will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 1 p.m., in Dover Burial Park.
