June 15, 1940 — March 15, 2006

Naomi B. Houston, 65, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 15, 2005, following a short period of illness.

Born June 15, 1940 at Zanesville, she was the daughter of Marion Singer Ransom, who resides in Zanesville, and the late Ralph Ransom.

A hard worker her entire life, Naomi was employed as a press operator for 17 years at the former Dover Molded Plastics until the plant shut down. She would later work for Lauren Manufacturing.

Away from work, Naomi took pride in caring for the family home. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and her family meant the world to her.

She loved sports. Her interest began as a youngster when she enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball, and blossomed into an appreciation of other sports, especially tennis, that she passionately followed on television.

On December 16, 1960, Naomi wed the love of her life, George W. Houston, who survives.

Other surviving family members include: two children, Tammy M. Houston and George Shawn (Elizabeth) Houston, both of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Michael S. Houston of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Mike & Jeff Ransom of Zanesville; two sisters, Ann Ransom of Columbus, and Sara “Sally” Baab of Zanesville; her mother-in-law, Wilma Houston of New Philadelphia; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and other members of the extended family who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her father, Naomi was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Ransom.
