Michele "Michael" Amodio

January 16, 1941 — March 11, 2015

Michele "Michael" Amodio, 74, of Dover, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2015
at Union Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born January 16, 1941 in Torre Annunziata, a small town outside of Sorrento, Italy he was the
son of the late Eustachio and Rafaella (Raffone) Amodio.

Michele began working in restaurants and cafes as a young man and built that experience
into a career in some of the finest restaurants and hotels throughout Europe before emigrating
to the United States in 1973. He continued to work in restaurants in Florida, Ohio, and
Maryland until his retirement in 2004. He returned to the area at that time to be closer to his
children.

The name Amodio can be translated as either "one whom God loves" or "one who God
loves". Michele lived out that legacy by accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a
member of First Christian Church in New Philadelphia.

He spoke eight languages, had every recipe committed to memory, loved opera and Italian
music and was an avid soccer fan. Personable and outgoing, he loved to talk to people,
especially in the neighborhood where he would often walk his faithful dog, Bella. He took
great joy in being close to his sisters, nieces and nephews in Italy with multiple phone calls
each week.

He is survived by his children Adair and Marshall (Sara) Amodio of Dover, his sisters: Teresa
Cacace and Anna Maria Irace, his nieces and nephews: Claudio (Elisabetta), Salvatore
(Nunzia), and Catia (Roberto) Petagna, Lella (Umberto), Elvira (Tonino), Roberto (Carmen)
and Felice (Alberta) Cacace, and Massimo (Rosella) and Patrizia Irace and numerous great
and greatgreat nieces and nephews, all of Italy, his church family, his friends, and those who
loved him.

In addition to his parents, Michele was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Francesca
Petagna, his three brothersinlaw, and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 4:30 pm at First Christian Church in
New Philadelphia, with the family receiving visitors one hour prior to the service. Cremation
will take place, with final interment in the family mausoleum in Sorrento. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Tuscarawas Valley Food Bank,
The Salvation Army, or First Christian Church.
