Max E. Burrell

Max E. Burrell, 89, of Dover died Sunday, October 26, 2014 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born May 15, 1925 in Dover he was a son of the late Dewey and Flossie Medam Burrell. Max was also preceded in death by his wife, Dora J. Burrell on June 11, 2007; son, Barney Burrell; sisters, Francis Lukens and Jane Kaltenbaugh.

Max graduated from Dover High School in 1943 then served in the US Navy during WW II for 34 months providing planes for carriers with Carrier Aircraft Units 6, 36, and 63. Following the war, he was employed at Greer Steel for 42 years having retired in 1985. Max was a member of the Midvale VFW, Dover Elks, Army Navy, Amvets, American Legion and the Tuscarawas Lodge #59 F & AM for over 65 years. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks and Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to the Senior Center, but most of all, he loved sports especially playing baseball for Dover Parks, Wendling Brothers and New Phila Legion.

Max is survived by his children, Brenda (Larry) Wallick of Dover, Beth (Larry) McClain of New Philadelphia and Brian (Polly) Burrell of Dover; sister, Doris Cooley of Dover; daughter in law, Tammy Burrell of Dover; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Ray Ulrich officiating. Following the funeral, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
