Matthew R. Jones

Matthew R. Jones, 20, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Dover, died Thursday, Aug. 7, in Port Charlotte, following a hit-and-run accident.

Born February 23, 1983, in Dover, he was the son of Charles D. and Linda S. Hershberger Jones of Dover. Matt attended Dover schools, and, after leaving school for a time, attained his G.E.D. He had recently moved to Florida in search of employment, and was currently working in the construction industry. Matt loved his family, and especially enjoyed time spent with his sister and two brothers, Ashley, Charlie and Taylor Jones, all of the family home.

In addition to his parents and his sister and brothers, Matt is survived by his grandmother, Pauline Hershberger of Dover.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laon Hershberger, and Roy and Sarah Jones; and an infant sister, Kelly Jones.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Pastor Earl B. Ankrom of the Truth Bible Baptist Church, Dover, officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 11, 2-5 p.m., in the funeral home.
