Mary Kay Mizer

Mary Kay Mizer, 85, of Strasburg died Sunday, June 14, 2009 in the Park Village Health Care Center.

She had retired, after more than 30 years of service, from the Times Reporter as the Executive Secretary for the Managing Editor.

Born June 8, 1924 in Strasburg she was the daughter of the late Bryan and Elsie Garber Haas. Two infant sisters also preceded her in death.

A 1942 graduate of Strasburg High School, Mary Kay was also a life member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg. She was very active within the church having sung in the Senior Choir, taught Sunday school, served as Youth Choir Director and her most favorite, giving the children's sermon. She also sang in the Tuscarawas County Sweet Adeline's and was a member of the Strasburg Jr. Women's Club. Mary Kay was also an exceptional artist who also enjoyed crafting, music and dancing. Following her retirement she was a tour guide leader for many bus trips to the Millennium Theatre in Pennsylvania.

A wonderful mother and grandmother, Mary Kay will be sadly missed by her children, Winnie (husband, Vic) Gessner of Dundee, Sally Dorn of Dover and William D. Mizer of Akron; three brothers, Donald (wife, Dorothy) Haas of Cincinnati, Jack (wife, Margaret) Haas of Dover and Robert (wife, Ella) Haas of Massillon, four grandchildren, John (wife, Kim) Gessner, Libby (husband, Damon) Stevenson, Andy (wife, Erin) Rinehart and Rich Holtzclaw and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 am in the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg with Pastor Steven Woyen officiating. Cremation will take place following the service with interment of the ashes to be held at a later date. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Strasburg on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
