Mary Kathryn "Mickey" Warther

Mary Kathryn "Mickey" Warther, age 87, of Dover, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton.

Born September 10, 1927, at Carrollton, she was a daughter of the late Wayne B. and Mary (Westfall) Shutt. Mickey graduated from Balboa High School at the Panama Canal Zone where her father was working as an engineer at the time. She participated in the Pan American games as a young lady and was awarded gold medals in swimming and diving. During the Second World War, Mickey worked as a translator for the United States government. Following the war, she earned her bachelor's degree from Antioch College at Yellow Springs. She married Raymond J. "Grit" Warther in 1946. The couple reared five sons and shared forty years of marriage prior to Grit's passing on March 20, 1986.

Mickey was an antique dealer and appraiser, having owned and operated The Queen's Attic Antiques at Dover for over thirty years. She especially liked working on and restoring antique furniture. Mickey served as the president of Warther Auto Electric, owned a costume rental business at Dover, and wrote for The Times-Reporter. She taught courses about antiques at Kent State Tuscarawas Campus, and was the original curator of the Degenhart Glass Museum at Cambridge. Mickey was also well-read and very interested in national and international political events.

She will be sadly missed by her family, which includes her sons, John R. (Amy) of Lewisburg, Kentucky, Robert W. (Fleur) of Akron, Richard O. (Francie) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Samuel R. (Mary) and Martin K. Warther both of Louisville, Ohio; her twelve grandchildren; her two great-grandchildren; her sister, Suzanne Griffin; her brother, James Shutt; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Grit, she was preceded in death by her sister, Polly Marks.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 8, at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, Dover, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Gazebo of the Warther Museum at Dover.
