Mary Jane Bayer, 86, of Strasburg, passed away suddenly on June 1, 2016 in the Assisted Living Apartments at Park Village in Dover.

Born July 4, 1929 in Strasburg, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Carrie Hagerman Rieger. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gene A. Bayer Sr. and her brother, Robert (Lee) Rieger.

Mary was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Dover and retired from the Hoover Company at North Canton in early 1993. Her retirement years were spent camping and traveling with her husband, Gene. She is survived by son, Gene Bayer Jr. of Oakley, California; daughter, Vicki Bayer, of Buford, Georgia; grandson, Robert (Susan) Milliken of Bessemer, Alabama; granddaughters, Stacey (Steven) Crain of Johns Creek, Georgia, Beth Goldizen of Roebuck, South Carolina, Valarie (Bryant) Bayer Simmons of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; great grandsons, Aaron Milliken of Helena, Alabama and Ethan Shoup of Johns Creek, Georgia; great granddaughters, Erika Milliken of Auburn, Alabama and Sophie Crain of Johns Creek, Georgia; great-great grandson, Ryder Allen Taylor of Helena, Alabama; brothers, Edward (Joanne) Rieger of Lebanon, Tennessee, William Rieger of Edinburgh, Texas, Jerry (Mary Kaye) Rieger of Hebron, Kentucky and sister, Anna (Anthony) Contini of Dover.

Fulfilling Mary's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover.
