Mary Demattio

July 27, 1913 — July 29, 2012

Mary DeMattio, who just celebrated her 99th birthday on July 27, went home to be with her Lord and Savior July 29, 2012. She resided at Midvale, Brightwood and New Philadelphia before moving to Park Village at Dover some nine years ago.

Born at Dover, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Barbara Molnar Yuhas. Mary attended school in Dover, and was employed by the former Scio Pottery and Belmont Stamp & Enameling Cos. Mary's main vocation, though, was that of a homemaker; she was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the former St. Paul's Church at Midvale until its closing, and then became a member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia.

Mary's grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews, have fond memories of time spent with her at home and on the family farm. She made them all feel very special and loved. In her younger days, she enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking her coconut cream pie was heavenly. In her later years, Mary stayed active, walking and bicycling with friends. Throughout her life, she maintained a kind and generous nature for which she will always remembered.

Survivors include her son, John (Janis) DeMattio of Brightwood; her five grandchildren, Linda (Jeff) Lesjak, Sally Vance, Robert (Tracey), Terry (Francine) and Tom (Tammi) DeMattio; her two step-grandchildren, Carl (Robin) Mackey and Cathy Mackey; her seventeen great-grandchildren; her seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Catherine Gribble of Dover; and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, John DeMattio, on Apr. 26, 1960; her step-father, Joseph Kalec; her infant sister, Julie; her sisters, Susan France, Ann Feister and Barbara Wagner; her brother, Steve Uhose; and her two half-brothers, George and Joseph Kalec (Joseph was killed in the Second World War).
