Marlys J. Walch

December 6, 1943 — December 8, 2022

Marlys J. Walch, age 79, of Dover, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Dover’s Park Village Health Care Center, following a long battle with cancer.

Born December 6, 1943, in St. Paul Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Leone Dageforde Otto. Marlys graduated from Ramsey High School in St. Paul, and then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota. She married W. Eric Walch on December 16, 1967 in Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. Eric became a pastor, the couple had two children, and the young family resided in Washington and Oregon before moving to Ohio in 1981.

Marlys always enjoyed working with numbers and was a dedicated bookkeeper. She was employed by the former Cardiology Associates of Aultman Hospital in Canton, and as a private income tax preparer. Marlys provided support for many small businesses through her work. She was also employed by the late Bill Weber at Business Management Accountants, and later, by Rea & Associates, both firms at New Philadelphia.

Marlys was a member of the Baltic Parish of the United Church of Christ, and for many years served as treasurer for the Eastern Ohio Association of the United Church of Christ.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Eric; her children, Matthew W. (Sandra Muhlenbeck) Walch of Glenview, Illinois, and Gretchen J. (Lance) Wyatt of Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania; and her grandchildren, Noah and Audrey Walch.

Besides her parents, Marlys was preceded in death by her brother, Walter “Skip” Otto.

Honoring Marlys’ wishes, no visitation or ceremony will be held. Instead of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
