Marie J. Bixler

Marie J. Bixler, 90, a longtime Beach City resident, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, in the Brewster Park Nursing Home at Brewster.

She was born October 15, 1918 at Massillon, the daughter of the late Edward & Gladys Guyette LeClair.

Even at 90, Marie kept a great sense of humor. She was a kind, giving person who would do anything for anyone, and would go without so others could have. She was a great cook who enjoyed preparing big family dinners on Sundays, and was famous for her black skillet fried chicken as well! She loved to travel, and enjoyed crafts and was especially skilled at making and painting ceramics. Marie cherished the time she spent with family and especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She attended the Strasburg United Methodist Church.

On April 12, 1993, her husband of nearly 50 years, Charles E. Bixler, preceded her in death.

Surviving family members include: three daughters, Sharla Simon of Massillon, Denise (Richard) Zeigler of Strasburg, and Diana (David) Wilson of Beach City; two sons, Gary (Pam) Bixler of Strasburg, and Dennis (Debbie) Bixler of Massillon; three sisters, Geraldine Wasko of Pennsylvania, Betty Bailey of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Velda Fogel of Massillon; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Omar.

In addition to her parents and husband, her son, David Owens and a sister, Florence Herman, preceded Marie in death.

In celebration of her life, a funeral service will be held Monday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Strasburg with Rev. Lynda K. Masters officiating. Interment will be in Strasburg's Grandview Union Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and one-hour prior to services on Monday.
