Margaret A. Kornish, 89, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, in Country Club Retirement Center, Dover, following a two month illness.
Born, Oct. 8, 1917, on Tall Timber Rd., New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Ricklic Myers. Margaret attended a one-room schoolhouse, and, while in the Sixth Grade, won the distinction of being the spelling bee champion of Tuscarawas Co. She went on to graduate with honors from New Philadelphia High School in 1935. Margaret was wed to Charles B. Kornish on Sept. 26, 1936. She was employed as assistant manager of the Hotel Reeves in New Philadelphia, and as a bookkeeper for Lahmers Mfg. Margaret also excelled in marketing and sales for various business concerns.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia, and loved her family and time spent with them. Margaret enjoyed arts and crafts, and gardening �" watching things grow.
Survivors include a daughter Janet (husband, Carl) VonAllman of Dover; a son, Gary (wife, Dinah) Kornish of Seattle, WA; five grandsons, Carl VonAllman, Jr., Eric VonAllman, Bradley, Greg and Scott Kornish; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Lillian Dutton of Sherrodsville; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Josephine and Ivor Lab of Winfield; sisters-in-law, Janice Myers of Louisville, and Pauline Myers of New Philadelphia; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Virginia and Otis Walker of Sherrodsville.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, on Mar. 28, 1992; a great-grandson, Gregory VonAllman: and by two brothers, Carl and Raymond Myers.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m., in Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia, with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the St. Ambrose Hall of Sacred Heart Church.
