Louis E. Lagatta of Dover, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, April 22, 2004 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover after a lengthy illness. He would have celebrated his 82nd birthday on April 27.

Louie was a talented architect having designed many beautiful buildings in Dover and New Philadelphia. He was an extraordinary gardener, gourmet cook, and winemaker. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and golf. He always enjoyed entertaining and the company of his friends.

Born April 27, 1922 in Dover, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Tornabene) Lagatta. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolly (Visconti) Lagatta; one daughter, Joyce (Jeff) Hinds of Lewis Center, Ohio; sons, David Lagatta of Dover and Daniel (Audrey) Lagatta of Westerville. Louie also greatly enjoyed his three grandchildren Max Hinds and Sarah and Claire Lagatta. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest F. Lagatta and sister, Alvie (Lagatta) O�(TM)Brien both of Dover. He�(TM)ll also be missed by his many nieces and nephews who enjoyed his incredible wit and wisdom over the years. Cheers-Uncle Louie!

Louie graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1940 and attended The Ohio State University and Mexico City College. He began flight training at Harry Clever Field in New Philadelphia and joined the Army Air Corp having graduated from advanced pilot training school at Alice Army Air Base near Victoria, Texas. He began flying gliders and eventually flew one of the fastest planes of the time, the P-51 Mustang.

Upon returning from the service, Louie became an engineer for Paul Prince, worked at George Fiedler and Associates at Dover, Dover Tank and Plate, and eventually Miller Studio where he designed the current buildings and the bridge connecting the two. He founded Lagatta Construction Company where he worked until his retirement.

A memorial mass will be held Monday, April 26, 2004 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. We invite you to join the family for a celebration of Louie's life immediately following the mass at the North Star Community Center at North Wooster Ave. in Dover until 2:30 pm Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Louie may sign the online register book by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com

At his request, cremation will take place and interment will be held at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover.
