Lillian G. Burkey

Lillian G. Burkey, 90, a longtime Dover resident, died Monday, July 18, 2005 in Union Hospital, following a brief illness.

She was born November 26, 1914 at New Philadelphia to the late John W. & Charlotte Dempster Ickes.

Lillian was the Valedictorian of New Philadelphia High School�(TM)s class of 1932.

She was a longtime member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ at Dover. She possessed a great sense of humor, and had a mind for service as well as she had been secretary of the Tuscarwas chapter of AARP and volunteer with Mobile Meals.

Noted for her green thumb, she took great pride in her flower gardens and had helped others hone their gardening skills through her involvement with the 4-H Gardenettes.

On June 17, 1945 she wed Paul H. Burkey. The two were happily married until his passing on March 2, 1972.

Survivors include: three children, Barbara Crumlish of Geneva, NY, John (Bev) Burkey of Mogadore, and Becky (Bob) Stauffer of Grand Rapids, MI; eight grandchildren, Paul William Crumlish, Christine (Christopher) Crumlish Joyce, Sean Burkey, Ben Burkey, Elsie (Ron) Norton, Reneé (Ben) Lyon, Robyn (Michael) Heintz, and Roxanne (David) Cook; eleven great grandchildren, Emma, Ian, Lexi, Seth, Devin, Britny, Cale, Mycah, Zoey, Audrey, and Carter; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in death by: two brothers, Walter and John Wesley Ickes; and a sister, Viola Ickes.

A ceremony celebrating Lillian�(TM)s life will be held Friday, July 22, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Pastor Dan Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in Dover�(TM)s Maple Grove Cemetery. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover where a reception will be held.

Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
