June Fanti, 83, of Dover, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, in Twin City Hospital, Dennison.

Born, Aug. 15, 1924, in Dover, June was a daughter of the late Merle and Celia Eckleberry VanAlstyne. She graduated from Dover High School and, in addition to being a homemaker, was employed by the former Dover-New Phila. Laundry & Dry Cleaners, and by the Tuscarawas County Fair Board.

June was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Women of the Moose College Member, and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, all of Dover. Additionally, she belonged to the Penobscot Homemakers. In her spare time, June enjoyed going out to eat and going bowling; she was a great card-player and was especially fond of poker.

Survivors include two daughters, Leanna and Patricia Fanti, both of Dover; two sons, Donald (Sandra) Fanti of Pasadena, TX, and Gary (Cindi) Fanti of Brewster; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Dean Fanti, Donna Lee Lab, Sean Fanti, Tammy Jo Trachsel, Theresa Fanti, Gary Dean Fanti II, and Rachel Ann Grasselli; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Heintz of Dover; two brothers, Bill Shroyer of New Philadelphia, and Larry (Carol) VanAlstyne of Dover; a sister-in-law, JoAnn VanAlstyne of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Wendell Dean Fanti, in 1995; two sisters, Eleanor VanAlstyne and Jean Tyson; and a brother, Walter VanAlstyne.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday (today), Feb. 14, 6-8 p.m. The Collegians of the Women of the Moose will conduct a service Thursday at 5:45 p.m., and a Christian wake service will be held at 7:45. A funeral Mass for June will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, with Fr. William L. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the home of Dick and Joan Schwartz, at 1227 Oak St. N.W., New Philadelphia.
