Joseph L. Springhetti
November 17, 1948 — December 22, 2000
Joseph L. Springhetti, 52, of Durango, Colorado and a former Dover, Ohio resident passed away December 22, 2000 as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born November 17, 1948 in Dover, he was the son of the late Fred and Josephine (Recla) Springhetti.
Joe was raised in Dover and graduated from Dover High School in 1966. He served in the US Army from 1968-1970 and was a Viet Nam War veteran.
He moved to Durango, Colorado in 1982 where he worked in Security for Purgatory Resorts International. Joe was active in the community and was an assistant chaplain of the Colorado Rangers. He enjoyed antiquing, working on cars, collecting antique guns and Indian artifacts. He had a great love of family and friends. Joe particularly enjoyed volunteering for the Humane Society in Durango and taking care of the elderly and poor.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Rudy Springhetti and a niece, Susan Pigott.
He is survived by his brother Robert (Liz) Springhetti of Dover and two sisters, Norma (Reg) Stadtmiller of Sandusky and Mary Ann Huston of Port Clinton along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, January 6, 2001 at 10:30 AM in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Cremation will take place and interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the VFW will conduct military graveside services. Family and friends will be received at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Friday, Jan. 5 from 6-8 PM where Christian Wake Services will be held at 7:30 pm.
