Joseph D. Gray, 87, of Bedford, Ohio and a former Dover resident died Friday, March 8, 2002 at University Hospital in Bedford following a brief illness.

He retired in 1980, as an employee of the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills where he worked for 25 years. He was also a former employee of the former Reeves Steel Company at Dover for 17 years.

Born September 11, 1915 in Lewis County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William D. and Bonnie Dudley Gray.

Joseph was a member of the UAW Local #420 in Bedford. He was also a former Union officer for the Reeves Steel Co. and the local musician�(TM)s union. He was a member of the Dover Eagles and Moose Lodges. He was a well known local guitarist and designed the first amplified guitar in Tuscarawas County. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Macon.

Joe is survived by his wife Rose Yuhasz Gray with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on August 1.

He is also survived by his son, Terry A. Gray of Macedonia and three daughters; Judy (Lyle) Baker of Sidney, Ohio, Linda Gray and her companion Roger Jurcago of Bedford, and Tina (Sam) Reber of Dover. Survivors also include fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ludean Brick and three brothers, Tommy Gray, William Gray, and Rudolford Gray.

The Dover VFW will conduct a public military graveside service Monday, March 11, 2002 at 2 pm in the Dover Burial Park. Friends and family are invited to a reception following the graveside service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. There are no calling hours.
