Johnny W. Miller

Johnny W. Miller, 78, of Wooster and formerly of Dover and New Philadelphia, died on Saturday, October 01, 2016.

Born on September 9, 1938 in Stone Creek, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ida (Smitley) Miller. He is also preceded in death by his sister; Ruth Ann Miller and granddaughter, Alyson Bates.

He graduated from Stone Creek High School and continued his education at Heidelberg College. After graduating from college, he became a 4th and 6th grade teacher and also taught Physical Education. He spent three years teaching at Sandy Valley and 29 years at Garaway. He also coached boy's baseball, basketball, football, and track at the junior high level, along with girl's 8th grade basketball.

He was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ohio and AARP. He attended Living Water Community Church in Dalton for many years.

On July 18, 1986 he married Sandi Hancock, who survives. Other survivors include four sons; Bill (Sarah) Miller of New Philadelphia, Matthew Miller of New Philadelphia, Michael (Melissa) Miller of North Carolina, Donald (Kathi) Bates of Dalton; his daughter, Leigh Ann (Shane) Sterner of Wooster; his sister, Patricia (Clarence) Hadorn of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, Andy, Lindsey, Kendra, Kaelynn, Megan, Jessica (Taylor), Alex, Christopher (Ashley); along with two great grandchildren, Sophia and Sam.

In honoring Johnny's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 4:00pm with Rev Mark Hirst officiating. A reception will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. A memorial visitation will take place Thursday from 1:30 until the service starts.
