John W. Miller

July 16, 1943 — August 16, 2003

John Wallace Miller, Sr., 60, of Winfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 16, 2003. His passing was due to complications from a heart transplant which he received on July 4th. John had battled heart disease courageously for over 12 years.

He was born in the family home at Winfield, July 16, 1943. The son of the late Wallace and Bernice Richardson Miller, he was proud of his heritage as a descendant of the early Richardson and Miller pioneers who entered Tuscarawas County before 1810.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue Uppstrom Miller; three children, John, Jr. (Marcia) Miller of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Cindy (Steve) Forney and Matt (Mandy) Miller both of Dover; four grandchildren, Ethan Forney, Makayla and Makenzie Miller and Madison Miller; three brothers, Dean of Orrville, David of Sugarcreek and Jerry of Indiana; and one sister, Carol Zimmerly of Kidron.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Darrell.

Next to his grandchildren, John(TM)s greatest joy was farming. He was very proud of his Holstein-Normande crossbred dairy cattle and his pastured poultry. He enjoyed many years associated with the Farm Bureau Federation, serving on the county board in various positions including president. He also served as trustee to the Ohio State Farm Bureau board representing Tuscarawas, Harrison, Carroll and Jefferson counties for more than a decade " a job he took very seriously and continued to perform to the best of his abilities even after his hospitalization on June 23. In addition, John was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America.

A 1961 graduate of Dover High School, John was a man of faith and attended the Sugarcreek Free Methodist Church. He also enjoyed his affiliation with the Tuscarawas County Gideons.

A service celebrating John(TM)s life will be held Thursday, August 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Sugarcreek Free Methodist Church with Pastor Dwight Mason officiating. Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery.
