John Lombardo

John Lombardo, 85, of Dover died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover.

Born March 16, 1922 in Dover he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Contini Lombardo. John was also preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Charles and Marion Lombardo; three sisters, Mary Lombardo, Rosina Marie Lombardo and Florence Schlemmer, and a nephew, Marion Lombardo, II .

During high school, John worked at Robb�(TM)s Machine Shop and following graduation from Dover High School he was employed at E.W. Bliss in Canton. John next served his country in the US Army during WW II, and following his discharge he went back to E.W. Bliss. He then entered John Hopkins University and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree and later received his teaching certificate from Kent State University. John started his career at Uhrichsville High School teaching advanced math and mechanical drawing, and was still there when the two schools consolidated. He later retired from Dover Middle School. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover VFW and Moose and the Uhrichsville Elks.

John is survived by a sister, Mary Huffman of Dover; two nieces, Patty Ann Morris of Dover and Joy (Dale) Rodgers of Mentor; three nephews, Joe (Terry) Huffman of Leesville, John (Beverly) Patterson of New Philadelphia and Andrew Lombardo of North Carolina; long time friend, Ann Biclawski.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday April 14, 2007 at 1:30 pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Friday from 5-7 pm with an evening prayer service starting at 6:45 pm.
