John C. Casteel

John C. Casteel, 64, of Dover passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 following a brief illness.

Born on March 29, 1956 in Dennison, he was the son of the late Lorin and Hazel Biddlestone Casteel. John was also preceded in death by his brother, Carl Casteel.

John was a 1974 graduate of Indian Valley High School and a 1979 graduate of The Ohio State University. He retired in 2013 from Buehler’s in New Philadelphia as the manager of the restaurant and deli. John was a member of First Christian Church in New Philadelphia and was an active member of the Dover Lions Club. He loved being outdoors, especially riding his Harley, tending to his garden or mowing the many acres he cared for.

John is survived by his sister, Carol (David) Gibson of South Carolina; nephews, Roger Casteel, Nathaniel, Joel, Devon Gibson; and long-time friends, Jim (Janie) Hershberger of Dover.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 11 starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery at Port Washington. The family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Due to Covid-19 masks and social distancing will be required.
