Joan M. Hagarman

July 24, 2012 — June 13, 2012

Joan M. Hagarman, age 80, of Dover, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Park Village Health Care Center, following a long illness.

Born July 24, 1931, at Leominister, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Adelard and Marie Louise Begin Carrier. Joan graduated from Leominister High School, and went to work for Cluett Peabody & Co. (Arrow Shirts) also at Leominister. On November 29, 1952, she married Edward J. "Ed" Hagarman in Leominister's St. Cecelia's Church. The couple moved to Dover in 1960. Joan retired in 1996 from the American Automobile Club at New Philadelphia, a job she truly enjoyed, after twenty-three years of assisting members.

She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church at Dover, as well as the church's Christian Mothers group, of which she was past president. Joan was an avid bridge player, belonging to the same club for over fifty-two years she enjoyed many cherished friendships there. She also enjoyed sewing, tending the roses around her home, and watching the hummingbirds as they visited her feeders. Joan loved baking for and with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special memories were formed in the simple act of decorating cookies. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her husband of very nearly sixty years, Ed; her two daughters, Michele (Larry) Lucas of Dover, and Susan (Tom) Black of New Windsor, Maryland; her son, Steve (Kathy) Hagarman of Dover; her seven grandchildren, Kelly and Kirk Lucas, Kristy (Garth) Grimes, Erin (Lester) Byers, Theresa and Edward "Ted" Hagarman, and Nicholas Vasco; her four great-granddaughters, Giada and Paisley Grimes, and Ruby and Ellie Byers; her two sisters, Gloria (George) Blanchard of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and Shirley Acerbi of Port Orange, Florida; as well and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, Roger and Raymond Carrier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Church at Dover with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in St. Joseph's Family Life Center. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover, on Friday (today), June 15, 5 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
