Jeffrey E. Swinderman, 58, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in his home following an apparent heart attack.

Born May 30, 1948, in Dover, he was a son of the late Floyd and Francine Cotterman Swinderman. Jeff graduated from Dover High School in 1966, and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was responsible for the mid-air refueling of airplanes. Jeff had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant at the time of his discharge. For the past twenty-five years he was employed by Union Camp at Dover, and its successor, Arizona Chemical.

Jeff was a member of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Some of his favorite pastimes were going fishing and astronomy �" watching the planets and stars through his telescope. He loved his children, and especially enjoyed being a grandfather, fondly known as “Grampy” to his grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Melisa “Misty” Minor of New Philadelphia; a son, Jeffrey L. Swinderman of Akron; three grandchildren, Quinn, Cameron and Bryce Minor; special friends, Jeff Leonard and Karen Garabrandt; and his beloved dog, Peanut Lamar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Jeff�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Friday, Oct. 13, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Rev. Glen A. Shedlock officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
