James M. Domer

James M. “Jim” Domer, 82, a lifelong resident of Dover died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 in the Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a lengthy period of declining health.

Jim retired from Chemical Associates in Copley where he was a Quality Control Manager. He had previously worked in the same position for Union Camp in New Phila.

Born Sept. 28, 1939 in Dover, he was the son of the late S. Max and Vardi (Sindlinger) Domer. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Mark Alan (age 7), Stephen Paul and Donald William who both lived for 12 hours.

Jim was an active member of his church and community. He was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ where he served on church council including past president and was a choir member for 46 years. He and his wife, Barb also were co-chairpersons of the former Share a Food program at the church. He was a past president of the Dover Jaycees and Dover Kiwanis Club. He was a 50 year volunteer Scout leader and was a recipient of the Bernard Myers Award. Jim was the former director of Junior Achievement, and was active in the T4C, Share A Christmas, and volunteered at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center with transportation, Community Hospice, former president of the local Mobile Meals board and was involved in the Wheels of Hope in Canton. He loved camping and worked on 11 mission trips, assisted in the building of two houses for Habitat for Humanity in Stark County and assisted his wife, Barb in a tremendous effort to assist victims of Hurricane Hugo. He and his wife also had the honor serving as hosts for the summer program at the UCC Society in Chautauqua, New York for seven years.

He will be sadly missed by family that includes his wife of 62 years, Barbara (Thompson) Domer; two sons, James M. Domer of Beach City and Steven J. (Linda) Domer of Dover; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren along with his brother, Jerry E. Domer of Fresno.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 2021 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends and family will be received Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
