James L. Leggett

James L. Leggett, 58, of Dover, Ohio died suddenly on Sunday, April 18, 2004 while running, one of his favorite hobbies.

Jim was the environmental safety director for Dover Chemical Corporation where he worked for sixteen years. He had also previously been employed at Empire Detroit Steel Company at Dover for eighteen years. He also taught Hazmat training.

Born May 7, 1945, he was the son of Wilma Howard Leggett Stevenson of New Philadelphia and the late Warren Leggett.

Jim was a “family man” and was totally devoted to his wife and children. He attended the Dover Foursquare Gospel Church. A 1963 graduate of Midvale High School, he attended X-Ray technician training from St. Luke�(TM)s Hospital in Cleveland and was a Viet Nam veteran having served as a corpman in the U.S. Navy. Jim enjoyed running marathons with his daughter and mountain biking with his son.

In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Sheryl Cox Leggett with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage on April 9.

He is also survived by three children Susan (James) Day of Upper Arlington, Sara Leggett of Fort Myers, Florida and Nathan (Julie) Leggett of Dover; one granddaughter Shelene Day and was looking forward to his first grandson who is expected in June. He is also survived by a sister, Melody (Bob) Liberatore of Dover and two brothers, Warren Leggett of West Chester, Pennsylvania and Kevin (Lissa) Stevenson of Virginia Beach, Virginia and his companion, Clover, “the brown dog” and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pastor Rod Phillips will officiate a private graveside service for the family in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 5-8 pm in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard in Dover.
