Jacob F. Warther

August 21, 1922 — August 1, 2012

Jacob F. "Jake" Warther, Jr., 89, of 1014 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, Ohio died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012 in his home.

Jake was the Vice President of the former Warther Auto Electric in Dover that was founded by his father, Jacob Warther Sr. in 1919.

Born August 21, 1922 in Dover, he was the son of the late Jacob and Emma (Brisgal) Warther.

Jake was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He was a 1941 graduate of Dover High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army AirCorp during World War II where he was stationed in England and Ireland. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Chi Fraternity, Dover American Legion, Dover VFW, and the 40 et 8 in Dover. For many years, he represented the American Legion by laying the wreath on Memorial Day at Maple Grove Cemetery. He was also a longtime amateur photographer and belonged to the Tuscarawas Photography Club. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed politics and history. He could often be found in front of the television watching history documentaries and professional golf. He had a great love for his family and always enjoyed family gatherings.

He loved tending his garden of vegetables and flowers, particularly his marigolds and zinnias. He took special care of his flowers and the birds every day with the help of his daughter Patrice.

Dad has a special fondness for "all things Dover" which he shared with all his children. Above all else Dad took great pride in being a devoted husband, father and mentor, which he did with quiet strength, unfailing courage, and unparalled humor.

Our family would especially like to thank our brother Mike, who has for many years lived at home caring for all those in the house and for being Dad's constant companion during the time when the rest of us were not able to be there.

Jake will be sadly missed by his wife Marjorie (Herbst) Warther with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on July 10; six children: Paula (Robert) VanSickle, Joseph Warther of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jacob Michael (Mike), Patrice, Julie (Brian) Hungerman of Wooster, Linda (Jim) Murray, sister-in-law Mary "Mickey" Shutt Warther and several nieces and nephews including Ginny Warther Stephenson.

Jake was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Beth Warther, sister, Mary Warther Cua, and three brothers Donald, Raymond, and Theodore "Jim" Warther.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at 10:00am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside honors. Friends and relatives can call at the church on Saturday morning from 8:30am until 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Heart Association, The Dover American Legion, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
