Jack E. Welsch, 92, of Dover and a former Newcomerstown resident died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his family, following a period of declining health.

Born Aug. 4, 1928 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Francis and Ruth (Lyons) Welsch. After high school, Jack served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1945-47.

He married Patricia L. Shaw on Aug. 7, 1948 and became parents of two daughters, Teresa Wright of Dover with whom he resided and Jaynise Welsch (John Ourant) of Newcomerstown along with his son, Jack T. (Iris) Welsch of Charlottesville, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Seth Clark (Melissa Garbrandt), Andrew (Erin) Wright, Rachel (Mark) Strauss, Lindsey (Jake) Harvey, Jesse Welsch, Brooke (Tony) Blond, and Misty Johnson; He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Jack began his career with the Ohio Power Company (AEP) as a groundsman. He worked his way up to lineman then line crew supervisor. With hard work and dedication, he was promoted to area supervisor and retired on June 1, 1990 as Bellaire area manager. He loved his job and earned the respect of both management and his employees.

Jack was Past President of the Belmont Co. CIC for 4 years and served on the advisory boards of the Salvation Army, United Way, Labor Management Cooperation Committee, and was a director of the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Newcomerstown Village Council, and was a past cubmaster of Pack #29 also in Newcomerstown. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, life member of Newcomerstown Elks lodge #1555 and Master Mason of Port Washington Lodge #202 F&AM. He served as Past President of the Ohio Power Veterans Association.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Welsch; sister, Betty Ruby; half brother, Max Sibole, and his special grandparents, Lettie and Bill Lyons.
