Homer Dean Sweasey

Homer Dean Sweasey, age 83, a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover, following a brief illness.

Born September 2, 1930, at New Philadelphia, he was the youngest son of the late Frank and Sarah Price Sweasey. Homer graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1948, and entered the service of his country in the United States Air Force in 1950. He was a member of the Air Police and a Staff Sergeant, and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone for three years. Following his discharge, Homer was employed by General Telephone & Electronics for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1984.

He was a faithful member of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia for many years.

Homer is survived by three sisters, June MacInnis of Petoskey, Michigan, Ruth Johnson of Canton, and Sarah Muth of Morgantown, West Virginia; one brother, Charles (Carole) Sweasey of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Reinhart, and a brother, Emerson Sweasey.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 27, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover, with Pastor Timothy McCollum officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia.
