Harry Pappas, Jr.

April 30, 1939 — June 6, 2007

Harry “Skip” Pappas, Jr., 68, of Strasburg died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at his home following a six-month illness.

He retired in 1999 from Republic Steel in Canton after 42 years of service.

Born April 30, 1939 in Canton he was a son of Nell Sanko Pappas of Middlebranch, Ohio and the late Harry Pappas, Sr. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Doyal and Mabel Seward.

Skip is also survived by his wife, Patricia Seward Pappas with whom he celebrated 34 years of marriage on May 26, 2007. He is also survived by sister, Connie McCarty of Middlebranch; brother, James (Judy) Pappas of New Franklin, Ohio; sister in law, Sandi (Roger) Schwartz of New Philadelphia; nieces and nephews, Kim McCarty of Cleveland, Michelle (Bob) McMasters of Minerva, Christine (Eric) Sanford of Alliance, Robine (David II) Renner of New Philadelphia, Bob (Karen) Schwartz of Savannah, Tennessee; great nieces and nephews, Max and Mattie McMasters, Alyssa and Emily Minard, Michelle and David III Renner and Adam and Christopher Schwartz; aunts and uncles, Lil (James) Stevens of Middlebranch, Betty Sanko of Navarre, Marge Gachter of Strasburg, Donna (Bill) George of Strasburg and Dale (Maurine) Renner of Stow.

Skip grew up in Middlebranch, graduated from Middlebranch High School in 1957, and was an Army veteran, having served from 1962 to 1964 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He moved to Strasburg in 1987 where he liked doing yard word and took great pride in his lawn. He enjoyed sitting on the porch in his rocker, especially in the morning with a cup of coffee watching the birds and neighborhood wake up. He also liked listening to his gospel and bluegrass CD(TM)s. But his greatest passion was his cars; he loved talking about and driving them, especially his GT Mustangs. In his opinion, black was the only acceptable color for a Mustang, and he was the expert on how to maintain them. Skip loved his family and friends and always looked forward to spending time with them. He was so friendly and outgoing, never having a hard time making friends and talking to anyone.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 11:00 am in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Rev. Gary Friend officiating.
