Harry A. Shaw, Sr.

Harry A Shaw, Sr., 93, of 1008 Sequoia Drive, Strasburg, passed away in his home on Tuesday May 13, 2014, following a period of declining health.

He was born September 16, 1920, near Perry, Oklahoma, to the late Ernest and Sarah (Bradford) Kukuk. Harry moved with his family at a young age to Ohio, and was raised near Canal Lewisville. He graduated from Coshocton High School in 1938, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, at the beginning of World War II. During his service time, Harry served as an infantry medic in England, France and Belgium, and was honorably discharged in 1945 after V-E Day. He was honored for his service by being hosted on the Honor Flight to Washington DC to view the World War II Memorial, and by Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County.

Following the war, Harry began study in the accounting field. In 1955, he became a Public Accountant, and became Certified in 1963, founding his own accounting practice, Harry A. Shaw, Sr. CPA, which became Shaw, Moore & Richardson, CPA's, and is now Moore & Neidenthal CPA's in north Dover. He was a lifetime member of Ohio Society of CPA's, a member of the American Institute of CPA's and was a past president of the Ohio Mid-East chapter of the National Accountants Association. Harry was also a past treasurer of the St. Jacob's Cemetery Association.

Harry developed an unwavering faith in God from early adulthood, which influenced his decisions in life for himself, his family, his business and others. He loved traveling with family, and was privileged to see most of the United States, Canada and parts of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and several islands of the Caribbean.

He is survived by six children, Raynola (Paul) Little of New Philadelphia, Sarah Pate and Lloyd Shaw, both of Douglasville, Georgia, Phillip (Gale) Shaw of Port Charlotte, Florida, Leonard (Tammy) Shaw of Powder Springs, Georgia, Harry, Jr. (Nancy) Shaw of Strasburg; daughter-in-law, Barbara Shaw of Dover; fourteen grandchildren, Alicia Weaver, Molly (Ben) Watkins, both of New York, Melinda (Greg) Garmon, Doug (Brandi), Drew (Natalie), Danielle and Phillip Shaw, all of Georgia; Stacy (Joe) Niewohner of South Dakota, Wayland (Amber), Drexel (Tabitha) and Rusty West, Jeremy, Aaron (Valerie) and Jonathan Shaw, all of Ohio; fifteen great-grandchildren (and a new one expected in June); two brothers, Benjamin (Marilyn) Shaw of Dover, and Edward Kukuk of Torrington, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Martyne McPherson of Bakersville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Mary Hanni of Canton; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Evelyn (Hanni) Shaw; his step-father, who played a major role in his upbringing, Benjamin Shaw; son-in-law, Morris Pate; two brothers George Shaw and Billy Kukuk; and brothers-in-law, Richard and Melvin Hanni.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Carlton Schooley and Curtis Bauske officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Cemetery, Stone Creek. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in Grace Community Church at Stone Creek.
