Guy G. Shaffer

Guy G. Shaffer, age 88, of Danbury Senior Living, Massillon, and formerly of Dover, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Born August 16, 1929, in Kerens, West Virginia, he was one of ten children born to the late Lloyd and Annie Nestor Shaffer. Guy graduated from Parsons (West Virginia) High School and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Helen Marie McGowan on April 3, 1952, and the couple reared two children and shared fifty-seven years of marriage prior to Helen’s passing on November 7, 2009. Following his discharge, Guy was employed by Emerson Electric Co./ABB Jackson Bayley Electric, Canton, as an electrician, from which he retired.

He was a long-time member of the Canton Baptist Temple, and was devoted to his family.

Guy is survived by his children, Gregory (Melissa) Shaffer of Strongsville, and Pamela (David) Elliott of Massillon; his grandchildren, Joshua (Bridget), Julianne (James), Jamie (Korban), Andrew (Cassie) and Megan; his great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Sean, Riley and Skylar (and another little one expected very soon); as well as his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and his beloved Helen, Guy was preceded in death by his nine siblings.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 12 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Rev. Jake Tovissi will officiate. Immediately after the service, his cremated remains will be placed in the columbarium at Dover Burial Park where military honors will be conducted.
