Guido Anthony Civiello

Guido Anthony Civiello, 98, of Arizona, and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Gilbert, Arizona.

Born January 3, 1919 in Dennison he was a son of the late Rocco and Carmela (Mazzola) Civiello. Guido was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Annie, on July 16, 1997; brothers, Joseph, Edward, Frank, Anthony, Carmen, Eugene and Tony; sisters, Lucy, Mary, Yula, Carinda; and son in law, Terry Taylor.

He was a graduate of Dennison High School and was an Army Veteran of WW II having earned seven bronze stars. Following his service, Guido was employed at Tuscora-Stocker Hardware Store in New Philadelphia for 30 years and was also a well-known electrician. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia where he served as a Lector; he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Tuscarawas County Mental Health Board, New Philadelphia Health Board, Fraternal Order of Foresters, VFW, Sacred Heart Senior Center and assisted with the Boy Scouts. Guido was a devoted volunteer for the American Red Cross where he taught lifesaving and synchronized swimming for many years, he was also a volunteer bus driver for Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School, and a member of the Central Catholic Booster Club. In his later years, Guido enjoyed making his famous Beaded Angels, Christmas ornaments and Easter crosses. He was an avid reader of western books and worked daily crossword puzzles.

Guido is survived by his daughters, Patty Taylor of Dover, Mary Ann (Dan) Hicks of Sugarcreek, Cathy (James Carroll) of Gilbert, Arizona; son, Michael (Judy) Civiello of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Shannon (Mike) Cody, Jamie (Tracy) Taylor, Craig (Amy) Hicks, Ryan Hicks, Jessica, Adam and Andrew Civiello; great grandchildren, Mike, Macey, Max and McKayla Cody, Ashley and Brandon Taylor and Carson Hicks; sister, Polly Pifer of Largo, Florida; many dear nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Michele Barron of Mesa, Arizona and his precious fur baby, Mia.

A Memorial Mass will take place on Monday, July 31 at 10 am in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Interment of the ashes will be in the Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Sunday from 4-7 pm with Rosary Services starting at 6:45.
