Grace Mcmillen Bair

Grace McMillen Bair, 93, of Dover passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Park Village Health Care Center.

A life resident of Dover, Grace was born on December 29, 1915 and was a daughter of the late Albert and Cecelia Gregory McMillen. Grace was also preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Robert M. Bair who died on March 24, 1993; brothers, Frank "Sonny", George and Albert McMillen; sisters, Margaret Heid, Mary Slates and Betty Breehl.

She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dover, was President of the American Legion Auxiliary and, along with her husband, was active in the 40 et 8 club and the CBI. Grace was a devoted mother and grandmother who took great pride in being a Den Mother to her sons Cub Scout Packs and also teaching her children and grandchildren the art of baking cookies and cakes. She was well known for her delicious meals, and in 1957 was featured in the Daily Reporter with many of her tasty creations. Grace was talented with her knitting needles and loved knitting afghans for her family and friends. She was an avid reader and had a passion for oil painting. She also enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several local bridge clubs and the Shanghai Card Club for many years. In addition to these hobbies, Grace also collected elephant figurines.

She is survived by her two sons, Gregory M. Bair of Dover and Richard G. (wife, Patricia) Bair of Westminster, South Carolina; sister, Peggy Lower of Millersburg; brother, Robert (wife, Miriam) McMillen of Dover; three grandchildren, Mark Bair, Heather (husband, Philip) Daniels and Theresa (husband, Clayton) Major; four great grandchildren, Tyler, Cody and Spencer Daniels and Mia Bair; step grandchildren, Jeri Lynn Larrick and Charles (wife, Amelia) Larrick and one step great grandchild Alana Larrick.

Cremation will be handled through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Leland Eilert officiating. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
