Glen H. Ridenour

Glen H. Ridenour, age 83, a life-long resident of Stone Creek, died Thursday, Mar. 7, 2013, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a brief illness.

Born Jul. 31, 1929, he was a son of the late Harry and Bernice Pfeiffer Ridenour. Glen attended Stone Creek High School, and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service time, Glen returned to Tuscarawas County, where he worked briefly for the Marsh Lumber Co., and then became a dairy farmer. Despite the hard work and long hours, Glen thoroughly enjoyed farming, and did so for the remainder of his working life.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Fiat.

Glen loved Belgian Draft Horses, which he raised for use on the farm, for show, and simply for his own pleasure. He was a former member of the Belgian Draft Horse Breeder's Assoc., and taught draft horse driving school for Eli J.C. Yoder in Sugarcreek. Glen had many good friends within the Amish community in the Sugarcreek area. Additionally, he enjoyed researching his family's genealogy, and was his family's unofficial keeper of photographs and records.

He will be sadly missed by his family, who include his wife, Edna M.(nee, Walters) Weber Ridenour, whom he married on Aug. 17, 1996; his daughter, Annette (Vince) Pizzoferrato of Canton; his two sons, Jeff (Connie) Ridenour and David (Terri) Ridenour, both of Stone Creek; his step-daughters, Cathy (Chester) Lehman of Stone Creek, Connie Chaney of Sugarcreek, Kathy (Bob) Lanzer of Strasburg, and Linda Sears of Teachey, NC; his step-sons, David (Cindy) Weber of Dover, and Jeff(Teresa) Weber of Strasburg; his grandchildren, Jonalee Yutzy, Jennifer Erwin, Jim and Jeff Robinson, Dakota Cooper, Matthew Ridenour, Stephen, Christopher and Brian Chaney, Andrew Weber, Sheri Laughlin, Renee Warr, Kayleigh Weber, Ashleigh Stantz, Matt Lanzer, Heidi Stull and Mike Sears; his many great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Marilyn (John) Snyder of Strasburg, and Ruth (David) Gross of North Canton; his brother, William Ridenour of Florence, KY; his aunt, Josephine (Phil) Baab of Dover; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Glen was preceded in death by a step-son, Roger D. Weber.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, Mar. 9, 4 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Mar. 10, 1 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Landaw officiating. Immediately after the service, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. Following cremation, Glen will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony in Stone Creek Cemetery.
