Gerald R. "Jerry" Schie

Gerald R. "Jerry" Schie, age 91, of Strasburg, and formerly of Shreve, died Friday, January 9, 2015, in Wooster Community Hospital.

Born March 24, 1923, in Berlin Township, Holmes County, he was a son of the late Edward and Kathryn (Styer) Schie. Jerry attended Mud Valley School at Holmes County, and served honorably with the United States Army during the Second World War. He was employed by Republic Steel, Massillon, Wooster Brick and Holmes County Landfill, from which he retired.

In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was also a collector of keychains.

Survivors include his wife of nearly seventy-five years, Bertha M. (Simmerman) Schie, whom he married on October 13, 1940; his two daughters, Sandra Schie of Beach City, and Connie (husband, Robert) Boyd of Amherst; his son, Leland "Butch" (wife, Myrna) Schie of Strasburg; his daughter-in-law, Gloria Schie of Wooster; his four grandchildren, Ralph, Lee and Jerry Schie and Shelly Mast; his six great-grandchildren, Tara Shrock, Nicole and Cory Mast, Allison, Delaney and Matthew Schie; and his great-great-granddaughter, Emalynn Shrock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Schie; his sister; and his seven brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, January 11, 2 4 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 12, at 10:30 a.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Simmons of the Wilmot United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted immediately following the service, and then there will be a luncheon in the Wilmot U.M. Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Killbuck Cemetery.
