George Edson “Ed” McBride, 94, of Dover, died peacefully Saturday, July 9, 2005 in New Philadelphia(TM)s Schoenbrunn Healthcare, after a brief illness.

Born Mark 16, 1911 at Dresden, he was the son of the late George O. and Verde Dowell McBride.

Ed retired in 1974 from the former Reeves Steel in Dover after 45 years of service. He earned his reputation as a hard working perfectionist in his longtime position as Superintendent of Shipping.

A Navy veteran, he honorably served his country in the Pacific during World War II. He was a proud member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Dover Elks.

Ed was always very active and had a variety of interests. He was an avid gardener who meticulously cared for his flowers. His skilled woodworking will be remembered for generations as every member of his family owns something that Ed handcrafted for them.

He had a love for traveling that he shared with his late wife Dora, who died in 1993. For more than 20 years the two shared a second home in Florida, and they enjoyed their home on Tappan Lake for many years as well.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry (Jane) McBride of Uhrichsville and Chuck (Rhonda) McBride of Dover; a sister, Helen (Irvin) Shively of Cortland; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Norma McBride and a brother, James McBride.

His body will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.

Ed(TM)s friend, Rev. Glen Shedlock, will celebrate his life in a public graveside service Friday, July 15, at 1:00 p.m. in the Dover Burial Park. The Dover VFW will conduct military honors as a part of the ceremony. Following services, family and friends will be received in a reception held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.

Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register for Ed by visiting the “obituaries(TM) link on the funeral home(TM)s website.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover.
