Fred L. Rhodes

Fred L. Rhodes, 90, of the Park Village Health Care Center and formerly of Dellroy, Ohio and Weirton, West Virginia died Thursday, August 5, 2010.

Fred was born June 16, 1920 in Terra Alta, West Virginia, the son of the late james and Anna (Goff) Rhodes.

He retired in 1982 as a carpenter for Weirton Steel Company where he worked for twenty years. He had previously been a self employed carpenter.

Fred was a 1938 graduate of Follansbee High School in West Virginia and following graduation he proudly served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He was an avid golfer and for many years was a starter at Atwood Golf Course. He was a member of the Weirton Moose, Elks and Masonic Lodges. While in Weirton, he was also a member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna (Kelley) Rhodes who died in 1971 and his second wife, Grace (Deceuster) Krantz Rhodes who passed January 31, 2009. He was also preceded by a brother Paul Rhodes and two sisters, Esther Thompson and Helen Rhodes.

Fred is survived by four daughters, Robin (husband, Pinson) Chanselle of Winchester, Virginia, Mary (husband, Roger) Gilkerson and Patty (husband, Duane) Stull both of Strasburg and Susan (husband, Ray) Wallace of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina; three sons, Walter (wife, Jenny) Krantz of St. John, Indiana, Joseph “John” (wife, Peg) Krantz of Dover, and Donald “Duck” (wife, Judy) Krantz of Strasburg; a sister, Pauline D�(TM)Aurora of Florida along with twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Private services for the family will be held Saturday in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Strasburg with Rev. Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery at Strasburg. There are no public calling hours.
