Fred J. "Fritz" Lanz

Fred J. "Fritz" Lanz, 85, of Dover died Thursday, August 7, 2013 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following an extended illness.

Born October 17, 1927 in Holmes County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Fred and Margaret (VonAllman) Lanz.

Fritz and his wife Jane, along with Ted and Ruth Loessi owned and operated the former Mumma Furniture Store at Dover for thirty years. Following retirement, Fritz was employed by the Kimble family where he worked for nearly twenty years.

Fritz was a longtime member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. Following graduation from Sugarcreek High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. Fritz enjoyed the golf course as well as woodworking. He was a member of the former Dover Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Jane (Reichman) Lanz who died September 6, 2012

He will be sadly missed by his family including his two sons Charles F. "Chuck" Lanz of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Joseph S. Lanz of Suison City, California; two grandchildren, Erica Biffel and Thomas Lanz and two great grandchildren Samantha and Mary Jane. He is also survived by a sister in law, Thelma Lanz of Toledo.

In addition to his wife and parents, Fritz was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Cheryl Lanz; four sisters, Virginia Milligan, Anna Gale, Margaret Untch and Mary Jane Domer and a brother, Robert J. Lanz.

Funeral services celebrating Fritz's life will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 beginning at 10:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Cremation will follow the services and a private ceremony will be held at a later date in the Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 16 from 5-7pm and Saturday from 9:30am-10:30am.
