Florence Lombardo Schlemmer

Florence Schlemmer, age 88, of Dover, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Union Hospital.

Florence was born in Dover, Ohio on October 13, 1915, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Contini Lombardo.

She was a graduate of Dover High School Class of 1935. During her school years and following graduation she worked for Mrs. McBride and Dr. Hudson. She worked at the Tuscarawas County Auditors office for ten years. The group “The Courthouse Gang” throughout the years continued to meet for lunch. Florence also worked for Mr. Bill Marino, both in the hardware store and Wilmar Furniture.
For many years, she was the organizer of the Contini Reunions. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She was a group leader of the intermediate Girl Scouts.

She married John H. Schlemmer on February 12, 1941. In 1942, she joined John, who was in the military, moving to Pasadena, California. In 1943, John was shipped overseas and Florence returned to Dover. John died September 10, 1979. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Marion: two sisters, Mary and Rosina and a nephew, Marion II.

She is survived by two brothers, Charles and John both of Dover and a sister, Mary Huffman of Dover; three nephews, John Patterson, Joe Huffman, and Andy Lombardo and two nieces, Patricia Morris and Joy E. Rodgers.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, October 4, 2004 at 10am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover on Sunday from 3-6pm. A Christian Wake service will be held Sunday at 5:45 pm.
