Fay E. Lengler

May 26, 1910 — February 7, 2006

Fay E. Lengler, 95, a long-time resident of E. Eleventh St., Dover, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, in Hennis Care Centre, Bolivar.

Born May 26, 1910, in the family farmhouse on Broad Run Dairy Rd., Dover Township, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Salome Burky Miller. Fay attended Kent State Normal College (now Kent State University), and attained her teacher(TM)s certificate. She then embarked on a life-long career in education beginning in a one-room schoolhouse teaching eight grades. Fay taught at Bolivar Elementary School, and then on to Dover High School where she taught Mathematics and Algebra. She moved again to the elementary level, teaching at Dover Avenue School. Fay also tutored a number of students on an individual basis. She made many friends, and had very fond memories of her years as a teacher. Former students often visited her in the nursing home, which was of great pleasure to Fay.

She was a member of St. John(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover, where she served on Church Council, taught Sunday School and belonged to the Beacon Light Class. Additionally, Fay served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, as her husband, Adrian, was a Boy Scout leader at St. John(TM)s. Fay was a voracious reader, consuming books, newspapers and periodicals for both knowledge and entertainment.

Survivors include a son, Richard Adrian (Priscilla) Lengler of Malabar, Florida; two grandsons, Richard Scott (Marilyn) Lengler, also of Malabar, and Keith Andrew Lengler of Orlando, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Lengler; a sister, Arlene Feller of Dover; sister-in-law, Eva Steinbach of Canton; several nieces and nephews, including Shirley Homan of New Philadelphia, Phyllis (Bruce) Oberlin of California, Linda Trapp of Findlay, Luther (Eleanor) Froelich of Illinois, and Rodney (Eileen) Steinbach of Canton.

In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, G. Adrian Lengler, on Dec. 2, 2002; and by a sister, Gladys Froelich.

Fay(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Wednesday, February 15, at 11 a.m.,
in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Dan Schaefer
officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the fellowship hall of St. John(TM)s Church.
