Eugene R. Brady

Eugene R. "Jack" Brady, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover, following a brief illness.

Born Apr. 27, 1923, in Strasburg, he was a son of the late Harry and Catherine Kendle Brady. Jack graduated from Strasburg High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army's Eleventh Airborne Division during the Second World War. He participated in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and was awarded the Bronze Star and Bronze Arrowhead. Following his service time, Jack was employed by the General Telephone & Electric Co. for thirty-three years, retiring as a switchman.

He was a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 84705 of Dover, the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 510, both of New Philadelphia.

Jack was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed being with his family and providing for them. He loved photography, and had a keen eye, more often than not he could be found behind the lens of a camera. In years passed, Jack was also fond of going dancing.

Survivors include his three daughters, Cheryl D. (Daniel) O'Connor of Uhrichsville, Audrey Renee Brady of New Philadelphia, and Lizbeth D. Workman of Tuscarawas; his son, Richard E. (Anne) Brady of Phoenix, AZ; his seven grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Amanda Workman, Ernest Host, Rick and Michael O'Connor, and Hayley McCormick; his six great-grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Host, Brady, Brock and Brett O'Connor, and Lucas Crihfield; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Honoring Jack's wishes, he will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Crematory. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 E.
