Elmo Beamish

Elmo Beamish, age 97, a long-time resident of Somerdale, passed away peacefully Friday, November 15, 2013.

Born October 9, 1916, in Leivasy, Nicholas County, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Flora Pittsenbarger Nicholas. When Elmo was thirteen, her family moved to Tuscarawas County where she graduated from Mineral City High School. She went on to complete a secretarial and accounting course of study at Canton Business College.

During the Second World War, Elmo worked for the Oklahoma Air Depot in Oklahoma City, the Office of Price Administration in Cincinnati and the War Assets Administration in Cleveland. She met Russell O. Beamish while visiting her parents, and the couple later married on January 4, 1958.

Elmo attended the Dover Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years. She enjoyed reading and studying The Bible, as well as sharing the good news of God's Kingdom with others.

Survivors include her son, Russell N. (wife Sharon L.) Beamish of Sherrodsville; her grandson, Keith A. (wife, Kayla) Beamish of New Philadelphia; her two granddaughters, Caitlyn M. (fianc, Mike Passio) Beamish of Dover, and Cassidy Beamish of South Carolina; her step-granddaughter, Michelle (husband, Drew) Pittman of Canton; her six great-grandsons; and her sister, Gwen Angelone of Cleveland.

Besides her parents, Elmo was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on January 10, 2005; and by her sister, Laura.

In keeping with her wishes, a private committal service will be conducted in New Cumberland Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1212 Kelly St. N.W., New Philadelphia, on Saturday, November 23, at 2 p.m. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Elmo, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the Toland-Herzig website.
