Elmer L. Decker

August 25, 1938 — January 9, 2007

Elmer L.”Sonny” Decker, Jr., 68, of Somerdale died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family following an 11 month battle with cancer.

Born August 25, 1938 in Roswell he was a son of the late Elmer L. Sr. and Lillian Dorothy Cusano Decker.

He retired from Armco steel in Dover after 40 years as a crane operator. Following his retirement he worked as a security guard at Case Farms and Wal-Mart.

He was a member of Midvale and Dover VFW, and was an Army veteran. In his spare time Elmer loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

A great husband, father and grandfather Elmer will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, Sarah Morris Decker; two sons, Steven (Debbie) Decker of New Philadelphia and Elmer “Buster” (Marge) Decker III of Alliance; two daughters, Deborah (Dave) Srock of Magnolia and Helen (Larry) Simmons of Somerdale; seven sisters, Frieda Class of Dover, Nora Bujewski of North Carolina, Georgie (Bob) Zontini of Brightwood, Delores Droll, Rose Gallagher and Cathy Smith all of Phoenix, Arizona, Judy Chetta of California; four brothers, Ralph Decker of New Philadelphia, Bob (Katie) Decker of New Philadelphia, Terry (Gigi) Decker of Phoenix, Arizona, Dave (Delores) Decker of Strasburg; 15 grandchildren, Sarah Ann, Donny Jr., Joshua, Christina and Ciera Seward, Dallas Cairns, Cheyanna Simmons, Garett, Taylor and Trevor Srock, Hannah, Katie and Ava Decker, Angela Hughes and Jeremy Conway; two great grandchildren, Kayla Kopp and Brendon Hughes.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Lew Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the Bisel Cemetery at Fairfield Township. Friends can call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 pm.
